Travel Back to … Paris

In this series, we take you back to 10 destinations we have travelled to in the past.

In Episode 3 I take you to Paris for a very special occasion: to celebrate and honour my grandmother’s life I visit the French capital on 21st October 2018 which would have been her 100th birthday. My grandmother holds a very special place in my heart, I was very close to her whilst she was still alive, my admiration for her grew again substantially when I discovered a bunch of letters hidden in a wooden box after she passed away. The letters opened a door into another world for me and took me back to the 1930s and 40s, the youth years of my granny which she mostly spent in Paris working for a count and countess as a nanny. I started to research her story which inspired me to write my first novel called “Embroidered Memories”.

I have been to Paris many times, once even with my grandmother to celebrate her 80th birthday. I dedicated my trip last autumn to just wander the streets of the 16th arrondissement, where she lived and try to soak in the atmosphere and travel back in time. At least in my thoughts.

Happily smiling,
