Recently when we looked through old pictures, we realized to how many places we have been – long before we thought of or even started this blog. So, we decided to share with you once a week a place we explored in the past in our rubric “Been There Yesterdays”.
We love Thai food! So when we visited Thailand in September 2012 we first headed North to Chiang Mai, where we decided to do a cooking class.
To start with, we headed out to the cooking school’s garden to learn more about Thai herbs, which was really interesting. We then continued to the local market to buy all the ingredients, which we needed to try out the different recipes.
Then it was time for the actual work in the outdoor kitchen.
We each chose a salad, a starter, a meat dish and a curry, which we made from scratch. After each course we sat down and ate the food. A good concept because by the time the next dish was ready we were again hungry.
Renz apparently has a talent to make very beautiful spring rolls; at least he won the contest within our group.
We have eaten a lot of curries in our life already – but I have to admit we never made the paste ourselves before. And it was hard work grinding all the ingredients but the smell was really good.
When tasting the result we had to admit that you can really make out a difference – it is a completely different league than curries cooked with the ready made pastes you get in the supermarkets in the West.
In the end we received all the recipes in a small booklet and left with good memories and full tummies.
Which was the best cooking class you ever visited?
